Winds cause outages, downed power lines

Thursday, Jan. 8, 2015

11:50 p.m.
At this time, 10 OPPD customers remain without power. That number could still fluctuate overnight, as periodic wind gusts continue.

Please check our outage map for the latest information.

10:13 p.m. **updated at 10:20 p.m.
Our crews were able to restore a big circuit which put a major dent in outage restoration. A tree limb on a circuit re-closer was to blame for this particular trouble. It impacted 700 customers south of I-80 to P Street, between 56th Street and 76th Circle.

At this time, the number of customers without power is down to 53. We thank our customers for their patience during repair efforts.

Please check the outage map for the latest number and location of outages which may fluctuate if winds pick back up again. Please stay away from ALL downed power lines, and treat them as live and high voltage.

If you should lose power, report the outage using one of the below options.

9:35 p.m.
OPPD crews continue to work to restore outages caused by strong winds. At this time, 1,050 customers remain without power. Part of the trouble has been that as repairs are made on existing outages, continuing winds are still causing new outages to pop up.

We will continue to work to restore power to those impacted as quickly as safely possible. Please check the outage map for the latest number and location of outages.

7 p.m.
Power has been restored to the 756 customers in the area bound by Jones to William, 33rd to 46th, noted below. The cause: aluminum siding blew into a three-phase line to disrupt the electric service.

Crews are working to restore the 700 customers in an area roughly bound by I-80 to north, P Street to south, 76 Circle to west, 56th Street to the east, as well as other scattered outages.

6 p.m.
OPPD crews are responding to the outage calls, which are widespread, and extra personnel have been called in to help. Currently, there are about 1,950 customers out. Please check the outage map for specific locations, but here are the largest areas currently impacted:
  • 756 are in rough boundaries - Jones to William, 33rd to 46th.
  • 700 within rough boundaries of I-80 to north, P Street to south, 76 Circle to west, 56th Street to the east.
Tonight's high winds are causing scattered power outages, but more importantly, the winds are bringing down power lines. Please stay away from ALL downed power lines, and treat them as live and high voltage.

Contact OPPD via one of the reporting options at left if you lose power.
